No. 2 @RazorbackWGolf At The Ally at Old Waverly

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The second-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team tees it up in the final fall tournament taking place at Old Waverly in West Point, Miss., Monday-Wednesday.

A pair of team wins and a third place showing highlight the depth and quality in the Razorback lineup this year. The solid play has had Arkansas ranked as high as No. 1 and the Razorbacks enter The Ally at Old Waverly as the top-ranked team in the field.

This marks the second consecutive season the Razorbacks have taken part in The Ally and most of the Arkansas lineup was part of the team’s ninth-place effort last year. Arkansas will travel six to this year’s event playing with an individual for the final fall event.

The Razorbacks are paced by an unassuming leader in redshirt senior Brooke Matthews, currently the No. 1-ranked women’s collegiate player. Matthews will meet the team in Mississippi after taking part in the second stage of the LPGA’s Q School. Matthews advanced through the first stage with a T10th shooting a 9-under 279.

Stepping in and stepping up is sophomore Cory Lopez. The Monterrey, Mexico, native has two top-five finishes in as many events and checks in as the No. 5 player in the country this week. Lopez was one of two players to finish in a tie in match play at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in her most recent outing.

Junior Kajal Mistry is also out to a fast start this fall. Mistry, ranked No. 34 in the country, vaulted up the leaderboard to finish T4th overall at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and was the only Razorback player to win her match at the Stephens Cup. Ela Anacona will be in the No. 4 spot for Arkansas. The junior was a regular in the lineup for head coach Shauna Taylor last year and is playing in her second event of the fall.

The final spot will be filled by one of two veterans in No. 39 Julia Gregg or Miriam Ayora with the other Razorback competing as an individual. Gregg and Ayora have competed in all three of the team’s fall events.

Stacked fields are nothing new to the Razorbacks and they again face some of the nation’s best in the SEC-heavy lineup. Also competing are No. 8 Florida, No. 12 Texas Christian, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 Alabama, No. 23 Auburn, No. 30 Kentucky, No. 38 Vanderbilt, No. 40 LSU, No. 42 Mississippi State, No. 69 Tennessee and No. 84 Missouri.
