No. 50 Women's Tennis Continues SEC Play At No. 15 Alabama, No. 12 Auburn

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 50 Arkansas women’s tennis team (7-5, 0-2) travels to Alabama to continue SEC play against the No. 15 Crimson Tide (11-1, 2-0) on Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m. and the No. 12 Auburn Tigers (8-5, 2-0) on Sunday, March 10, at noon.

The Razorbacks dropped two matches this past weekend, falling to No. 20 Tennessee and No. 11 Georgia at home to open SEC play. In the match against Tennessee, the newly ranked duo of No. 49 Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel cruised to a 6-1 win over No. 40 Cabezas/Tomase at the No. 1 position. The victory for Cross/Koskel marked their first ranked win together this spring as the tandem has won five of their last six matches.

No. 48 Carolina Gomez Alonso grabbed the only point for the Hogs against the Lady Vols after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 23 Cabezas. Gomez Alonso is currently on a five-match winning streak and has two straight victories over ranked opponents. Gomez Alonso leads Arkansas with six singles wins while Cross has posted a 10-2 doubles record to lead the Razorbacks.

The No. 15 Crimson Tide have started the season 11-1 and 2-0 in SEC play, defeating No. 27 Vanderbilt and No. 57 Kentucky last weekend at home. Alabama is led by juniors No. 32 Loudmilla Bencheikh and No. 83 Petra Sedlackova at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. The singles lineup also features senior Anne Marie Hiser and graduate No. 116 Ola Pitak, who have both claimed seven victories this year. The duo of No. 20 Bencheikh/Marie Hiser has achieved a 7-2 record in the top spot to lead the Crimson Tide in doubles play.

The No. 12 Tigers are off to an 8-5 start this spring and are unbeaten in SEC play after wins over No. 57 Kentucky and No. 27 Vanderbilt last weekend. Fifth-year No. 14 Carolyn Ansari, senior No. 70 Ariana Arseneault, and sophomore No. 64 DJ Bennett head the Auburn lineup and are a combined 21-11 on the season. The tandem of No. 19 Arseneault/Bennett has won four of their last five matches with three victories over ranked opponents.
