Razorbacks Head to Missouri Southern Stampede

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Following a strong showing at last weekend’s UC Riverside Invitational the Razorbacks head to Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern Stampede set to start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Along with Arkansas the Southern Stampede will feature: Bacone, Dallas Baptist, Drury, Fort Lewis, Kearney, Lincoln, M.S. U., McKendree, Metropolitan State, Newman, Okla. Baptist, Okla. Christian, Pittsburg State, Rogers State, Southwest Baptist, San Diego, Sioux Falls, Southern Ark., St. Edwards, Southwestern Okla., Texas A&M International, Tarleton State, and Central Missouri.

The Razorbacks look to bring home their second team title of the season off the heels of 10 Razorbacks who will be competing in the 5K race.

UC Riverside 5K champion Claudia Verstraten (17:32.10) has the best time on a 5,000 meter course this season for Arkansas followed closely by Sydney Brown and Rachel Nichwitz. The three young Razorbacks will be joined by Logan Bishop, Therese Haiss, Sabrina Herrmann, Nikki Hiltz, Samantha Mohler, Annika Sisson and Grace Taylor.

Two-time All-American Dominique Scott opened up her season last year with a win at the Stampede crossing the finish in 16:32.78. Arkansas won the team title with a score of 23 points as their entire top five came through among the eight best runners of the meet.

Arkansas will follow the Stampede with a week off and return to action on their home course on Oct. 3 at the 27th annual Chile Pepper Festival. The Razorbacks have three more regular season competitions remaining before championship season begins in College Station, Texas on Oct. 30.
