Razorbacks Finish 12th at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – The Arkansas men’s golf team fired a final round 13-over-par 301 to finish in 12th place at the Gary Koch Invitational at the Old Memorial Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Razorbacks finished the tournament with a three-round total of 896 (+32). The ninth-ranked Florida Gators took home team honors with a tournament record 24-under-par total of 840. Kentucky’s final-round charge fell just short as the Wildcats finished three-shots out of the lead at 843. UK made up 12 strokes on the front-running Gators in the final round with a 9-under-par round of 279. Texas A&M (866) finished third with LSU, South Florida and Toledo tied for fourth at 867.
Junior Beau Glover continued his impressive play Tuesday with an even-par round of 72 to finish the tournament in 14th place at 1-under par. His 215 matched his career-best 54-hole score for the second straight tournament.
Sophomore Eric Shriver finished the tournament in a tie for 31st at 4-over-par 220 after a final round 75. He fired an opening round 73 on Monday and came back with 72 in the second round.
The Hogs’ leading scorer entering the tournament, Matt Borits, finished with a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday for a total of eight-over-par 224 for the event. He finished in a tie for 42nd.
True freshman Jordan Payne shot his third straight 79 to finish 57th in the tournament with a 21-over total of 237. Buddy Wilkins turned in a 60th-place showing with a 245.
Kentucky’s Matt Kohn captured medalist honors with a final-round 65. He finished the tournament with a 9-under-par 207, to edge second-round leader Toby Ragland of Florida by two strokes. Ragland and teammate Matt Every tied for second at 209.
The Razorbacks will travel to the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif., on Nov. 1-2 to close the fall schedule. The Hogs will then open the spring schedule on Feb. 8-10, 2006 at the TaylorMade/Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawai’i.
