Redlicki Selected To Play On US Open Stage

USTA Press Release

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Mike Redlicki will soon play on one of the great stages in tennis. The senior from Chicago was one of eight American college tennis players selected to play in the in the third annual American Collegiate Invitational at the 2016 US Open, the United States Tennis Association announced Thursday.

The American Collegiate Invitational will be played during the second week of the US Open, Sept. 8-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. The winner of the single-elimination tournament will earn a wild card into the 2017 US Open, main draw or qualifying, depending on their ranking next summer.

“We are excited that Michael will have the opportunity to play at the American Collegiate Invitational in the US Open,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “We are grateful to the USTA for the opportunity. Mike earned it with a tremendous year last year. Michael will have a unique advantage in that he has already won a doubles main draw match at the US Open professional event in the past. The US Open is the premier tennis event in our country and having a Razorback in that environment is fantastic.”

Redlicki finished the 2016 season with a 15-6 singles dual record — including an 8-3 mark in Southeastern Conference play — and earning All-SEC First Team honors. He ranked third among all SEC players with an 8-3 conference record at No. 1 singles and also ranked third among all SEC players with a 14-5 overall record at No. 1 singles during the regular season.

He qualified for the NCAA Championships in both singles and doubles, finishing the season ranked No. 25 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings in singles. Redlicki also was part of a doubles team with Giammarco Micolani that finished with a 12-10 doubles dual record and finished the season ranked No. 20 in the Oracle/ITA Rankings.

The American Collegiate Invitational men’s champion will receive a main draw wild-card entry into the 2017 US Open if he is ranked No. 120 or better by the US Open entry deadline next summer. Otherwise, the winner will receive a wild-card entry into the US Open Qualifying Tournament. The winner will also earn wild cards into two USTA Pro Circuit events, while the runner-up will also receive one.
