Soccer looks to even record against Liberty

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer team looks to even their overall record on Friday night, Sept. 16, when it takes on the Liberty University Flames at 7:00 p.m. central, in Lynchburg, Va.

The Arkansas-Liberty match start time could change slightly as the match is part of a double header involving the Liberty University men who start at 6:00 p.m. local time.

“This is an important game for us,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “Our team was very mad after the George Mason lost last Sunday and that is a good thing. They felt like they gave that game away and should go into this match with more intensity than they showed last week.”

The Lady Razorbacks enter Friday night’s contest with a 2-3-0 overall record and are attempting to even that mark and improve to 4-3-0 after the weekend’s matches. A pair of Lady Razorback wins could help Henderson’s team to their best non-conference record in several seasons.

Arkansas’ game with Liberty is the first ever meeting of the two schools. Liberty enters the contest with a record of 1-2-2 and are coming off a disappointing weekend in which they tied and lost. Despite the one win, however, the Flames have proven to be tough to score on as they have not surrendered more than two goals in any contest.

The Lady’Backs are also coming off a tough weekend that saw them lose to George Mason, 1-0. Arkansas’ struggled offensively in the contest as a well organized George Mason defense prevented many quality scoring chances, a trend that Arkansas’ coaches hope to rectify. For Arkansas to be successful against the Flames they will have to use their athleticism and speed to keep the Flames off balance and capitalize on the few opportunities that present themselves.
