Telford Corry to play in UEFA U19 Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer signees, Carly Telford and Lyndsay Corry are preparing to participate in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) U-19 Championships for their respective countries April 26-30.

Telford, the starting goalkeeper for her club team Sunderland, should see a majority of the minutes for her England squad as she continues to impress England’s coaches with her prowess between the posts while Corry laces up her boots for Northern Ireland as a forward/defender.

Beginning on Tuesday, April 26, Telford’s England squad competes in Group 2 in Italy while the Northern Ireland team heads into the competition in Group 6 in Switzerland. Each squad has an excellent chance to advance to the eight-team round to be held in late July but first must win their respective groups to achieve the goal.

Group 2 features England, Moldova, Norway and the host Italy while Group 6 showcases Northern Ireland, Switzerland, Ukraine and Poland.

“I think that it’s a wonderful experience for any athlete to represent their country,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “I am very proud of Carly and Lyndsay and I believe that their commitment to play at Arkansas validates our program and shows the direction in which we are moving. They will have tremendous experiences here as will their current and future teammates which comes with playing with a national team player.”

Telford and Corry join the rest of Arkansas’ 2005 signing class, who are currently in their final high school seasons, on campus in August where the Lady Razorbacks begin their quest for a Southeastern Conference championship.
