Women’s Tennis Opens Home Slate Against Bradley

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team opens its home slate with a doubleheader at Billingsley Tennis Center this weekend after a successful performance at the Duel in the Desert last week. The Razorbacks (0-0) face the Bradley Braves (0-0) on Saturday, January 20, at 11 a.m. CT and 3 p.m. CT.

The Hogs opened the spring season this past week in Indian Wells, Calif., at the Duel in the Desert, where the team collected 21 wins – 14 singles and seven doubles – over the three-day event. Graduates Kacie Harvey and Kelly Keller, seniors Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink, and sophomores Anet Koskel and No. 59 Carolina Gomez Alonso all picked up two singles wins each, including a ranked win for Gomez Alonso as she defeated No. 110 Mulville (Kansas) in straight sets. In doubles, the duos of Cross/Spink and Gomez Alonso/Keller went 3-0 on the week, while senior Lenka Stara and junior Grace O’Donnell claimed a victory during the doubles sweep against Clemson.

Bradley is coming off a 7-15 season, going 2-6 in MVC play, and ended last year with a 4-1 loss in the MVC Tournament, falling to the No. 3 seed Belmont in the quarterfinals. The Braves return six players from last season’s team and have added freshman Andra Sirbu to this year’s squad. Bradley is led by sophomores Anna Belogliadova and Mariia Pukhina, who played all of last season at the top two positions in singles. The Braves also bring back Kirstin Hailey, a mainstay at the No. 1 position in doubles while competing on court three in singles last spring. Senior Maria Bezmenova played all of last year on court four in singles in addition to competing with Belogliadova in doubles on court two.

Admission is free, live stats & video are available on the women’s tennis schedule page.
