Women's tennis in Top 15 atop SEC West

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team moved into the Top 15 nationally this week, and will host No. 30 South Carolina on Friday while 16th-ranked Florida comes to town on Sunday for Razorback Towel Day.

Both matches on the weekend will begin at noon, and the first 200 fans at Sunday’s match will receive red rally towels to cheer on the Hogs with.

“It should be a great weekend of SEC tennis here in Fayetteville,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “Both South Carolina and Florida are exceptional programs and we had great matches with them last season as well.”

Arkansas jumped into the Top 15 for the first time in two months thanks to a superb four match win-streak within the tough confines of SEC action, while sitting atop the SEC Western Division.

In singles, senior Aurelija Miseviciute remained in the Top 5 nationally at No. 5, while sophomore Anouk Tigu sits at No. 70. Miseviciute remains a perfect 6-0 in SEC action, while Tigu is 9-2 in dual matches at the No. 2 spot for Arkansas.

The Hogs (9-5, 4-2) also carry two doubles teams in the national rankings this week. Nanar Airapetian and Tigu are No. 29 with 18 wins on the season, while seniors Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder cracked the rankings at No. 62 after storming through their first six SEC match with a perfect 6-0 mark.

South Carolina (10-7, 3-2) boasts No. 52 Ana Zubori and No.59 Gira Schofield in singles, while Zubori and Natasa Vuckovic are No. 63 in doubles. Arkansas dropped the Gamecocks in Columbia last season, 5-2.

Florida comes to town on Sunday for Razorback Towel Day. The Gators (13-2, 3-1) are sitting at No. 16 after falling two spots following a loss to Ole Miss, 4-3. Their lineup consists of fourth-ranked Marrit Boonstra, No. 38 Anastasia Revzina, and No. 107 Megan Alexander. The Gators are also winners in four of their last five matches.
