Razorbacks Fall to Top-Ranked LSU

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas baseball team ran into the red hot bats of top-ranked LSU Friday evening as the Tigers evened the three-game SEC series with a 16-3 victory at Baum Stadium.

After Arkansas held LSU to one run Thursday night, the Tigers returned the favor on Friday as Alex Lange lasted 7.0 innings and gave up just one run on three hits.

LSU came out firing in the first inning, recording three hits and pushing across two runs to take an early lead.

Trailing 4-0 heading to the last of the fourth inning, the Razorbacks loaded the bases with no outs and brought the tying run to the plate, but a sacrifice fly from Tyler Spoon to plate Clark Eagan is all the damage Arkansas could muster in the frame.

LSU would go on to score 12 more runs, including a six spot in the ninth inning. Carson Shaddy added some late fireworks with a two-run opposite field home run in the ninth inning, but LSU picked up the 16-3 victory.

James Teague (0-1) suffered his first loss of the year, tossing 3.0 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits, while walking a pair. Four other Arkansas pitchers saw action in the game, including a pair of scoreless one-hit innings by Josh Alberius.

The Razorbacks and Tigers will play the rubber game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon with first slated for 2:05 p.m. on SEC Network Plus and the WatchESPN App.

Arkansas right-hander Trey Killian will get the start for the Razorbacks as he makes his third appearance. He is coming off 7.0 perfect innings at Vanderbilt where he struck out six and earned Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week honors.
